It’s that time of year again: Time to get the kids back into a routine, back in the books, back to class and back to their friends – back to school! So, how can you prepare your home for the school year routine? Here are a few ideas:
Prepare a place for homework and studying Whether your child has a desk in their room or use the kitchen table, having a set place and routine for kids to complete their school work will help them get "back into the swing of things". Create a space where they can focus with minimal distractions and make sure they have the proper tools i.e. pencils, markers, rulers, etc.
Computers, iPhones & iPads, oh my! It’s hard to keep track of all the technology students are using in today’s schools. Make sure your electronics have the necessary software, hardware and power cords. These items all have security and password settings for your safety.
Snacks Time It's difficult for kids to focus when they are hungry. Keeping healthy snacks readily available is beneficial for your students' brain and body. Having a shelf in the pantry and/or fridge that is a “go to” place for your kids makes it easier for you and them.
Calendar and Schedules Be sure to put up a calendar or organizational chart to help keep track of all those events and extra-curricular activities. You can color code them for the different kids involved and who is responsible for getting them there. Kids respond to structure and a calendar is a great way to keep track of the moving parts.
